LG Wing: two is better than one

For a while, major smartphone manufacturers competed over who made the phones with the largest screens, until releasing plus versions and other smartphone models that reached almost 7 inches. At a certain point, however, they had to stop, to prevent smartphones from reaching the size of a tablet. Now the challenge is based on finding increasingly innovative and cool features. Who is the star of the competition? It is still the screen, of course.

While Huawei and Samsung are betting on folding smartphones, LG once again decides to revolutionize our idea of using the phone, putting a double screen on its brand new LG Wing. At first glance it seems a smartphone just like the others, obviously with the excellent finishes that have always distinguished the products of the company based in Seoul.

Basically, the 6.8-inch main display slides 90 degrees, becoming a horizontal screen, as if it were a wing. When you rotate it, another 3.9-inch display comes out on which it is possible to both extend the functionality of an app on the main screen, or open a new one at the same time. By doing so, it will be possible for example to watch a video and take notes at the same time or, in the case of apps like YouTube, the video will be displayed above while comments and suggestions below.

The new LG smartphone, which weighs a little more than the average with its 263 grams, is part of the Explorer Project range. This is a line of smartphones designed by LG to “discover yet unexplored usability concepts in an effort to expand the mobile industry”. This rotation mechanism could suggest that it is a weak point of the phone, but those who have already tried it ensure that in addition to slide smootly it is also very sturdy.

Among the other features of the wing is that of allowing an excellent grip to shoot photos and videos like real professionals. In addition, the camera has the Gimbal feauture, thanks to which the screen below turns into a joystick with which you can orient the camera frame without moving the phone. It results in blur-free shots. High quality pictures are also guaranteed by the presence of three rear cameras: one with a stabilized wide-angle lens and a 64 MP sensor, one 12 MP ultra-wide and another 13 MP. The 32 MP front camera, on the other hand, is retractable, and it only comes out when needed.

As for the technical characteristics related to the processor and the operating system, LG Wing has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G Mobile Platform X52 processor, with 8 GB of ram and 128 GB of internal memory (expandable up to 2 TB with a microSD). The operating system is based on Android 10, with several customized apps, such as LG Health, QuickMemo+ and Smart Doctor. Battery runtime is also good, with 4000maH battery.
