This is how the new Huawei OS will be

It has been a while since Huawei announced that it would abandon Android to install an operating system developed by the Chinese company on its smartphones. An unavoidable choice due especially to the commercial bans imposed by Trump, which prevent American companies from working with those included in the black list, in which Huawei has been put. Since Android was developed by Google, the introduction of a new OS was essential to keep its smartphones on the market. So in December the beta of the new operating system was released and its name will be Harmony OS.

The latter has already made its appearance on some televisions, such as the Honor Vision, and on a modem, but only on the Chinese market. Harmony OS 2.0 was made available to developers last September, but exclusively for smart devices and smart TVs. With the release of the beta in December, Huawei has invited users and developers to try the available version. To do this, you need to download the DevEco Studio IDE version 2.0 Beta 3 emulator from the official website, or register on the site and wait for Huawei’s invitation containing all the instructions. After trying it, it will still be possible to return to EMUI.

Currently supported devices are the following: Huawei P40 (ANA-AN00), Huawei P40 Pro (ELS-AN00), Huawei Mate 30 (TAS-AL00), Huawei Mate 30 5G (TAS-AN00), Huawei Mate 30 Pro (LIO -AL00), Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G (LIO-AN00), Huawei MatePad Pro (MRX-AL19), Huawei MatePad Pro 5G (MRX-W09), Huawei MatePad Pro Wi-Fi (MRX-AN19). Obviously, Huawei ensures that the devices that will be able to access the new operating system will be a lot more.

The interfaceis very similar to EMUI 11 and it seems able to support all Android apps. The biggest challenge will probably be getting users used to a system that doesn’t support Google Mobile Services (GMS). Google digital store, Google Play, and the other apps of the company, such as Gmail and Google Maps, cannot therefore be present. However, Huawei did not lose heart and created Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). The digital store is therefore the Huawei AppGallery, from which you can download the most popular apps and games. The catalog is constantly expanding and, where some apps are not yet present, there are still solutions to have them on your smartphone.

Huawei has also launched a contest for developers. The total value of the prizes amounts to 200,000 euros. The purpose of the competition is to encourage the development of new Harmony apps.
