Dell launches new notebooks specifically designed for smart workers

In recent years, companies that have decided to make their employees work from home have increased more and more, recognizing all the benefits of remote working such as reduced costs for the company and enhanced productivity for the employees. The outbreak of covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing generalized lockdowns accelerated this phenomenon by 100%, making smartworking more popular than ever. Hence, a niche with specific needs is born, giving computer manufacturing companies a new target, since computer is the main tool in smartworking.

The American multinational Dell, one of the leading manufacturers of personal computers and IT products in the world, has moved in this direction, announcing for Ces 2021 a line of computers designed for the new group of smart workers. The Latitude 9000 range includes a series of solutions dedicated above all to video calls and videoconferencing, such as the webcam automatic shutter.

The models launched are basically two: the Dell Latitude 9420 and 9520. The major innovation is given mainly by the “SafeShutter”, what according to Dell would be the first webcam automatic shutter on a computer. Thanks to this function it will no longer be necessary to cover the webcam, for example with a sticker. The webcam will in fact be synchronized with the videoconferencing applications and will automatically activate and close when you start or end the video call. 

Among the other solutions specifically designed for smartworking there are the integrated speakers, which are much more performing than those of its predecessors, and on the keyboard there will be keys to block the microphone and temporarily pause the audio capture. In addition, the camera has also been improved by inserting automatic systems that allow you to automatically correct the light and even blur the background.

The laptops of the Latitude 9000 range, like all those presented for 2021, will be equipped with the new 11th generation Intel Rocket Lake processors and will have Windows 10 pre-installed. They will be available in both the classic version and the convertible 2-in-1 version. The latter provides a detachable screen that can be used as a tablet, and also the 5G or 4G LTE and eSIM options.

As for the technical specifications, Dell has revealed details mainly on the Latitude 9420. This will have a 16:10 frameless 14” Infinity Edge display which will be Full HD+ (1920×1280 pixels) in the classic version and Quad HD+ (2560×1600 pixels) in the 2-in-1 version. It will be equipped with a maximum RAM of 32GB and 1TB maximum M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD. As for connectivity, there will be a USB Type-A 3.2 port, two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports with Display Port and Power Delivery charging system.

Prices should start at 1949 dollars.
