Ces 2021 will be online
“The show must go on” sang Queen back in 1991. The show must go on, even in such a particular time like this, where theaters and cinemas have been shut down, and all kind of fairs and conferences have been postponed, due to the pandemic. Since the situation has lasted for a long time, at a certain point it was necessary, by force of circumstances, to reinvent and digitize (almost) all events. And Ces is no exception.
Also the tech show held annually at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the International Consumer Electronics Show (usually abbreviated to CES) will be a digital event broadcasted through online videoconferencing platforms. The event will take place in the days that go from 6 to 9 January 2021, during which several companies will present their new electronics products in absolute preview.
Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, the organization that sets up the fair, said: “Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it’s just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person”. He then reassured tech enthusiasts: “We’ve fully reimagined the CES 2021 experience, creating a digital platform that will inspire, engage and fuel the future of the global tech industry”, and finally “It will be a personalized experience unlike any other”.
Ces 2020 was one of the last major live events that took place before the pandemic paralyzed the whole world. The latest edition was among other things one of the most interesting and complete ever, in which even sex toys were introduced for the first time.
Among the most interesting products of Ces 2020 there were several Samsung smartphones, such as the two cheap top of the range Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. To these are added two mid-range, namely the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A71, which come with a slightly renewed hardware and design. OnePlus company presented the prototype of a smartphone capable of obscuring the rear cameras, the OnePlus Concept One.
TV enthusiasts were able to admire the 8K TVs from TCL, Sony and LG. The latter was the undisputed star of the sector with different solutions including LCD, NanoCell and OLED. It is still to LG that belong the OLED RXs, the 65-inch rollable televisions. And then there were notebooks, cars, and more.
Next edition will be a little different, but no less interesting. The technology and innovation that have always been at the center of one of the most important consumer electronics show will be precisely what will allow its accessibility.
