Corsair acquires Fanatec: a new era for sim racing
In a significant development for the sim racing community, Fanatec, a leading name in sim racing technology, has officially been acquired by Corsair, a prominent American hardware company known for its high-quality peripherals, including mice, keyboards, and headsets. This acquisition comes as a relief for both Fanatec employees and thousands of sim racers who were concerned about the brand’s future amid swirling uncertainties.
The announcement first emerged on 8th May, when Corsair communicated its intent to acquire Fanatec’s parent company, Endor AG. At that time, Endor AG was grappling with substantial debt, estimated at approximately €95 million, including €70 million in bank liabilities. Following initial negotiations, the acquisition process faced a temporary halt as Endor AG filed for insolvency, leaving many to question the fate of the revered sim racing brand. However, the recent acquisition has cleared the air, promising more stability for Fanatec. According to Corsair’s official statement, the company has acquired the commercial assets of Endor AG, which includes taking over its foreign subsidiaries and all active employee contracts. Endor AG is set to be fully liquidated as part of the insolvency proceedings, with its stock market listing expected to be suspended soon, leaving shareholders anticipating no payouts. Additionally, the company’s assets remain on the market as part of this transition.
For now, this acquisition means that Fanatec will continue its operations in the sim racing sector, safeguarding the jobs of its employees. While Corsair’s long-term intentions remain uncertain, there is potential for significant investment in Fanatec, which could translate into an enhancement in product quality and customer service. Fanatec has established partnerships with various entities in both virtual and real-life motorsport. It has collaborated with prestigious car manufacturers such as Porsche, creating replicas of street and racing steering wheels. The company enjoys strong ties with Ford M-Sport, Bentley, and BMW, all of whom feature Fanatec steering wheels in their competitive racing vehicles—offering gamers a chance to invest in authentic racing technology. Furthermore, Fanatec is a licensed partner of Gran Turismo and Formula 1, producing officially licensed wheels and serving as the main sponsor of the Fanatec GT World Challenge, the championship that inspired the popular game Assetto Corsa Competizione.
As fans and enthusiasts await further developments, this acquisition marks a promising new chapter for Fanatec and the sim racing community at large. The focus now shifts to how Corsair will shape the future of this iconic brand and continue to fuel the passions of sim racers around the globe.
